million, or $1.83 a share, vs. a loss of 58 cents a share in the year-earlier period.
Excluding a gain from the disposition of ExpressJet stock, earnings were 49 cents a
share, exceeding the average analyst estimate compiled by Thomson First Call of 43
cents. Total operating revenue rose 8.6 percent to $2.37 billion, helped by improved
load factors and increased sales from regional operations. The stock closed Wednesday
