Hello all:
I sent my two weeks notice to management. I advised them I am going to start school full time and pursue a masters degree in finance. The ride has stopped for me and I feel sad for the people I leave behind who have to stay.
I wish the company in its quest for low cost would do a better job in helping its employees transition. If you intend to take the seniors pension then at least provide them some sort of financial advisor so they can see what money they do have and where they are going. If you intend to cut employee pay at least demonstrate exactly where this cut will save UA money. If you intend to make employees accountable for dependability, productivity and such then at least have local management on the same bar (not taking 2 hour lunches when you get 30 minutes). If you intend to say to the media we value employee ideas at least attempt to show you actually give a damn.
I am convinced UA can make it if and only if the culture changes there. Unfortunately many people in the chain have never worked anywhere else so they have no idea what thinking outside of the box actually is. The Southwest's, Aitran's, Jetblue's and others are not successful by simply having low costs. They are successful because the employees are valued and can contribute to the discussion not be told sit back and only let management show you the way.
Ok Rant off.
Thank you all and good luck.
