Maybe, maybe not. Does Eagle have Flex pay in their contract? People used to go to Eagle and other small carriers and be willing to work for peanuts so they could get experience and get hired by the majors. Now the Majors dont require as much, if any, experience but the pay isnt that great anymore. So my guess is the few kids that come out of school will get hired, look around and see not much of a future and leave the industry. We actually saw that in the late 80s. AA had a Junior Mechanic program and hired kids out of The Acedemy of Aeronautics, after a couple on months of working nights and weekends several of them bailed( they couldnt see their grlfriends and could make more working 9 to 5).
Did you put in for AA yet? NYC is hurting for mechs.

This is how it was being done on Dock 1D in TULE. The CS Policy was at first very strict so everyone was still mad. Then management decided to allow for trading, but that lasted about a week. So then they allowed more CS's, attitudes eased a little. The shortage of manpower on the dock was obvious. One of the guys that works for me had TUE/WED off and CS'd every week in the rotation to have SAT/SUN off. The scheduling for the July 4th holiday was a disaster for the aircraft flow which was upgraded from a RETRO package to a Light "C". On SAT before the holiday I had a one man crew. As of this shift change we go to 7-day coverage with FRI/SAT or SUN/MON off. People are still bidding off. It appears that the management of dock 1D has had a negative effect on production. Funny thing is, that it seems that this management of 1D is not a dock decision. The supervisors seem to be caught is the same trap as the mechanics. The decisions appear to becoming from outside the dock or maybe from down south.

At ORD we bid for shift, our days rotate every 4 weeks, you go from mon/tues off to tues/wed off wed/thurs...etc....Avionics does it mon/tues, to thurs/fri, to sat/sun......which is nice for avionics because every 3 months they get a 4 day weekend, where line mechs get two 3 day weekends every 6 months............
I believe in the contract it states the days off rotate by what the majority vote in, so if a amt makes a motion at a union meeting to do away with rotating shifts, then that motion gets voted in you are done with rotating shifts.........that is no a TWU thing so much as it is a local 514 thing, we don't have rotating shifts at ORD.

Bob,
I gave more than adequate examples. Your own attempts to counter are false.
Outsourcing is cheaper unless you can figure a way to do it more efficiently in house. If overhead is the same, say $30/hr and the labor costs are wages of $32/hour how could it not be cheaper if you outsourced that same work to someone who gets paid $25/hour or less? Are you saying the work is inferior? Prove it. So based on wages alone outsourcing is cheaper.
I am not bashing SWA. They took a different approach and it involves heavy outsourcing. All engines and components with a large percentage of outsourcing airframe overhaul. What work did SWA bring in?
Yes I think you should not be telegraphing the next move of our negotiating committee on the internet. I think you should stop with broadcasting how screwed up you guys are in committee to the company.

I'm quite sure that 3P maintenance providers charge airlines way more than that $25.00/hr. How much does AA charge a customer for us to work on their planes. I bet it's way more than the $32/hr we make.
