That's what happened to angry passengers travelling from India to Britain who found themselves stranded in Vienna by a charter airline that wanted them to kick in money for fuel.

Passengers said Comtel airline staff told them they would be stuck in Vienna until they could raise more than £20,000 ($31,000) to fund the rest of the flight to Birmingham

The Indian government is screwing Jet, Kingfisher et al with fuel surcharges that are above and beyond market rates.

Of all the countries in the world to deal with, far and away India is the last one on my list.

Nothing is ever a done deal over there....

Huh, wow... that sounds like a major lawsuit waiting to happen. I'm not sure how that would play out considering that the airline is registered in Austria (is that correct?) and most of the passengers look like they're from India, but I feel that would definitely be within their rights.

Of course, the company could just file bankruptcy and leave everyone in trouble. Sad news.
