Word floating around is that the City has ordered or is about to order 20+ deicing trucks and has hired a firm to handle deicing of US mainline and express aircraft. The city is upfitting an old cargo building for maintenance of the trucks...Someone overheard an airport department manager also saying that they would like to handle ramp functions down the road....

I loved the smell of glycol in the morning. Ah those were the days. Easy money and kinda fun. But like everything else, us mechanical mutts mostly gave it away. Been gone for several years now for most stations. Remember when-----I think I'm gonna cry now. BUH BYE

Not Covered in Scope. The Company GAVE AWAY Deicing at numerous out stations a few years ago, they claimed it was cheaper. And YES I could see CLT Airport starting a ground handling service, Airlines with only a few flights a day into a station are AWLAYS shopping around for the cheapest services. Heck, Piedmont Handles Ground Services at how many stations they dont even fly into?

Ah yes, Remember when----- A 4 hour post shift OT call, run home and sleep for 2 or 3 hours, then a return OT call to de-ice for 8 more hours all at DOUBLE TIME. Your feet were frozen but your wallet was full.

Done here in PIT by Integrated De-Icing Service. All part time, no benefits and $9 per hour.

Rumor is, say good bye to de-ice in CLT.
